i have been playing piano for awhile, so I am about intermediate level. Which of the following would be best to buy? (please don’t tell me to buy a yamaha, korg, casio, etc. They are too expensive)

What sort of piano should you buy when getting started?

Posted in Electric Piano on October 21st, 2010 by Andrew – 1 Comment

Hey people,
I’ve been wanting to take up a new instrument, so I was thinking about learning how to play the piano :D
The thing is… I have absolutely no clue about pianos… And there are so many different kinds..
What sort of piano should I first buy to get started? I’d like something affordable at first lol…
So, after having searched on the internet, I’m wondering:
-What’s the difference between digital and electric pianos? How does the sound differ from acoustic pianos?
-Would an electric keyboard be enough to get started? They seem to be cheaper, plus I don’t have much space in my room for a piano…

Any other advice you have for buying a piano? My budget isn’t very high, but I’d still like to try learning the piano =)
Thanks =)
PS:I hope I asked this in the right category, if not, sorry..

What type of piano or keyboard for my 6 year old?

Posted in Electric Piano on October 19th, 2010 by Andrew – 7 Comments

My 6 year old has started piano lessons recently. Her teacher uses an upright piano and she practices on a friends upright piano. Thing is, I don’t want to invest thousands buying a proper piano just yet. I don’t know whether to buy her a cheap(ish) electric keyboard, an electric piano (with keys like a real piano) or a second-hand cheaper piano?

The teacher said she will be teaching her the basics for the first year before she thinks about exams and at that stage I will have to choose whether she will do her exams in "keyboard" or "piano" I’m a total novice at all this stuff so I don’t know where to start but I wstartt like to spend any more than €1000 right now on something that she can practice on each day. I want it to look well in our living room and also sound good and be suitable for her to practice without learning bad habits etc.

I would like to have a proper piano in the house eventually as I will be learning along with my daughter as she learns, I’ve always liked tinkling on a piano every now and then but never had any training. Basically, whatever I buy won’t go to waste but I don’t want to spend (or have to spend!!) thousands at the moment.

Does anyone have any advice?

What type of keyboard should I buy?

I’m interested and very serious about learning the piano. However, I want to buy my own keyboard before I begin taking lessons. I want the best 88 key velocity sensitive electric keyboard that I can get for no more than 550 dollars. What models would you all suggest?
